Queensland Future Skills Partnership



About the program


The Queensland Future Skills (QFS) Partnership is led by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) and includes TAFE Queensland and CQUniversity as education partners. The partnership has been working with industry experts, community organisations and government since late 2019 to fast-track responsive co-design and delivery of training to support the implementation of autonomous technology in mining.


The Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport has committed funding to support the implementation of pilot programs, to enable existing workers, particularly in regional locations, to acquire new skills. TAFE Queensland and CQUniversity as education partners, are seeking expressions of interest to participate in training, at no cost to participants.


Delivery dates and modes will be dependent on the review and award of EOI applications. Placements will be determined through the QFS Partnership Management Committee.

Microcredentials are non-accredited training programs. Delivery is a blended approach as detailed below:

  • A two hour self-paced online module, delivered via a Learning Management System (CQUniversity or TAFE Queensland).
  • A two to three hour practical or project based activity.
  • A two to three hour facilitated webinar or workshop. Approach dependent on the geographic location or pilot participants and organisational preference.
 

Microcredentials (Non-accredited)

Work effectively in autonomous environments

This microcredential provides an introduction to automation in the workplace, its benefits and requirements, including the benefits of automated environments, how autonomous systems are being used, applications across industry, terminology and working with automation.

This microcredential will provide an overview of:

  • The history and development of automation
  • Automation, the changes, benefits and trend and major components of automation in the workplace,
  • Key components of autonomous systems, and
  • Future trends in automation

Data fundamentals in autonomous environments

This microcredential provides an introduction into different types of data and the importance of data in automated workplaces, including the use of data in analysis of trends, performance, process automation and quality.

This microcredential will provide an overview of:

  • The importance of data in automation
  • Different data types and sources of big data
  • How data is used in an automated workplace
  • Different ways to collect, store, analyse and visualise big data

Cyber security

Introduction to cyber security, what the risks are, and information on the need for cyber security for business continuity, networks and operational security including types of threats, planning and frameworks and the future of cyber security.

This microcredential will provide an overview of:

  • Introduction to cyber security
  • Cyber security legislation and frameworks
  • Supporting your organisations cyber security efforts
  • Current technology and the future of cyber security

Safety fundamentals in autonomous environments

This microcredential provides an overview of requirements for working safely in autonomous environments, including common autonomous equipment and components, safety requirements, procedures and work instructions and types of risks.

This microcredential will provide an overview of:

  • Safety requirements and documentation for autonomous systems and components
  • Plan and prepare to work safely in proximity to autonomous systems and components
  • Hazards, risks, emergencies and functional safety

New Technology

This microcredential provides an introduction into new and emerging technologies, describes their applications inside and outside of the workplace, and explores career opportunities related to these new technologies.

  • Machine Learning
  • Virtual Reality (VR)
  • Internet of Things (IoT)

Positioning basics

This microcredential provides an introduction into positional control technology, its applications in autonomous environments, and its impacts now and into the future.

  • The future of positioning

Network fundamentals

This microcredential provides an introduction into computer networks, their set-up and operation, with a focus on networking applications in new and emerging technologies.
