Target audience
This program is designed to develop skills and knowledge for entry level cyber operational roles. Expressions of interest are sought from:
- Level 1 IT support staff
- Staff who are looking to build on their IT background and take up a role in cyber security
- Non-IT staff who are passionate about pursuing a career change to cyber security (completion of the IT Essentials Bridging program is recommended for this group prior to enrolment). -
Program structure
The course will run over a year commencing at the start of December 2022, completing 11 months later in November 2023.
The program will be run as a combination of face-to-face and virtual sessions:
- 1 full day each week, plus 2 x 3 hour online sessions in the evenings (note: 1 day per week face to face at Southbank campus)
- Some self-study time each week is also to be expected*Staff already working in ICT roles may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This will be explored during the program.
*We strongly encourage agencies to consider their cyber capability in the regions. TAFE can deliver this course in regions if we have sufficient interest. -
Cost
The retail cost for the Certificate IV in Cyber Security * is to be advised and will be co-funded by Cyber Security Unit and the employee’s department. The CSU is hoping to maximise uptake of the JobTrainer subsidy, meaning the cost of the course could be as little as $50.00. If participants are ineligible, agencies will only pay $3,500.00 with the CSU covering the remaining cost.
Costs will be determined and are to be paid in full prior to commencement. -
Eligibility
A panel will interview suitable candidates from applications received through the EOI process, including a TAFE program representative to ensure individuals are placed for success.
The intent of this panel is to gain an understanding of candidate’s background and experience and provide guidance on whether the Certificate IV in Cyber Security * is the best stream for them.
Applications from candidates will be considered on the basis of their background and future career path intentions, and fit for the program.
Participants must also:
- be a permanent or temporary Queensland Government employee
- be in the target audience
- have a Government email address
- have support from your agency for your time and cost commitment -
